I was involved in a car accident at the end of February 2019. Someone who was in a left turn only lane, decided to go straight and since I was in the next lane to make a left turn as well, they hit me.
Unexpected Tests
It's how you go through that counts.
I suffered a 2nd degree burn from my airbag, was treated in the ambulance and received further care later. In August 2019, my vehicle was finally repaired, so I had been in a rental for 5 months. If anyone would have told me that it would have taken that long I would not have believed them. However, I want you to know that God is still so good! Sometimes God will answer a prayer and develop us through an unexpected test.
Even though this happened, the person in the car behind me during the accident was a physician’s assistant who not only came over to check to see if I was injured, but who got in the back seat of my car, evaluated me before the ambulance got there, stayed with me until my sister came and gave me her information as a witness. The person who hit me had insurance, but it could not cover all of the damage to my vehicle, so my insurance had to cover my repairs. However, I did not have to pay anything out-of-pocket and everyone from the insurance company, the dealership and the car rental were very kind and helpful. The witness also gave the insurance companies the statements they needed and even called to check on me.
Sometimes we go through things we do not understand, but keep in mind that it’s how you go through that counts. At the time, I did not know why I was going through yet another accident. Especially after I had a bad fall down the stairs at work less than two years before this incident. I did not understand that either at the time. However, I do understand how this accident has benefited me.
I am always working on my spiritual progress - striving to be better in certain areas. I usually pray about one issue at a time because it usually takes a while to pass the tests that come especially when I have been praying for a change in character. I had been praying for self-control for the last year and a half, which I know was quite broad, but I need self-control in a few areas. You just never know how God will answer a prayer.
This accident taught me two things that work together - patience and trust. Of course, we all say we know this, but how many of us actually practice it during a long-term test. It taught me to be patient, without getting upset or becoming irate, while waiting for God to work things out no matter how long it took. Remember, it took 5 months for them to fix my vehicle and I had many completion dates that kept getting pushed back when they found something else that needed repairing. I also had 4 rental cars that sometimes went over my daily rate, but they always covered it and I never had out-of-pocket costs. Also, God taught me to trust that even if I did not know how it would be resolved, He would work it out for my good and that I did not have to worry about anything. He is never surprised and already works things out so there is no need to become alarmed or upset while you’re waiting. He never fails.
We must trust that whatever happens He is still in control so if he allowed it, just be confident that it will be resolved when and how it’s supposed to be. That is when our faith should be activated during the crisis, not afterwards. So often, we worry for nothing. We must believe when everything is telling us not to and when it looks like things are not getting any better. We must try to be obedient and react in ways that would please Him because, as I said in my book, our actions determine God’s response. In order to pass the test, we must not waver while we’re going through it.
